Charles’s academic journey

A testament to his commitment to learning and service. He earned an Associate’s degree from EPCC and is set to receive his Bachelor’s in Education from UTEP this semester. With a family steeped in education—his father, a Vietnam veteran and retired substitute teacher, and his mother, a dedicated educator who recently retired—Charles understands the transformative power of quality education.

Personal Life

His personal life mirrors his professional passion. Charles’s wife is a SISD teacher, his 4-year-old daughter thrives in the district’s special education program, and his 13-year-old daughter is preparing to attend Montwood High next year in the dual credit program partnered with EPCC. These personal ties fuel his commitment to ensuring every child in SISD receives the support and opportunities they deserve.

In addition to his educational pursuits, Charles is a successful business owner, operating MVS Body Shop on El Paso’s eastside. His experience running a business has honed his skills in fiscal responsibility, accountability, and community engagement—qualities that are sorely needed on the SISD Board amid recent financial crises and governance challenges.

Charles’s vision is clear

His commitment centers on three key priorities: restoring transparency, implementing responsible budgeting, and protecting vital programs like fine arts that enrich our students' education. Charles's vision is straightforward—to guide SISD through its current financial challenges while building a sustainable future that benefits students, teachers, and community members through accountable, forward-thinking leadership. Drawing on his deep community roots, legacy of service, and passion for education, Charles Smith stands as the trusted leader to guide SISD toward a stronger, more accountable future.
